BRAINSTORMING - FLYING LOTUS

Missing Items & Requests — 77 posts — 440248 views

NumyMufn July 29, 2009 at 6:06 PM
We have a number of bumps that need solid info from just suspecting Flying Lotus to knowing it's Flying Lotus but needing official release information.
Let's try and gather our breadcrumbs here so we can have all the clues together. It's quite common to find the one you weren't actually looking for in these situations
This list can be edited or added to as necessary:

These have solid leads, we're looking for official releases:
10,000 Hours to be an Expert

High Scores of the Week v3 (also on four other bumps 1 2 3 4)

Television Story

Flag Invaders - (iTunes release located @ Belgium store)

Stoppage Time

Looking for instrumental versions:

Match Play for Golf Win

Upfront 2012 News Pt 1 & 2

Turbo Turbo Turbo Game

Nicolas Van Damme

These are just hunches, will take any clues available ;)
Copigturduckenburgrer

Hammer-Small Lovechild, also Williams Street Divisions, Fax Us, Soapbox Society on Money and Titan Lunch Retaliation Game

What's in your Frig?

Previously Confirmed:
Nicolas Van Damme

Why are you Mean?, also Where You Are <~ These turned out to be Malcom Kipe

Stuff Science Works On
Same song on Personal Satellite and Spell My Finger 2

Crop Circles
Same song on Schedule Regiving and AS is Satisfaction and Winter for Trees

Still Being Designed
Same song as Roach on Lunch Results and Picture from 2004

Golf Leaderboard
and Golf Leaderboard 2

Let Us Go Forward Together

australian wallabies bump and old bump

Crop Circles and Japan City Flags

...anyone think we should add 'Stuff Science Works On' to the suspect list?  :|
blackliquid009 July 29, 2009 at 9:17 PM
Hmm "Stuff Science Works On" could be Flying Lotus, but I'm not sure. You could add it anyway, since we're not confirming it's Flying Lotus. I think "Television Story" should be added. It sounds to me like Flying Lotus, even more specifically like a song called Nidocin off of July Heat. Once again though, it's still just a suspect.

Yeah imeem is just as reliable as youtube, which is why I don't view it as a good source of info, but moreso as a way to get started on finding songs. "Kill Your Co-Workers" seems to me like whoever uploaded it just slapped on a name. I have the strong suspicion that a lot of this music is coming from "Flying Lotus Returns". I'm hoping that someday it gets leaked out into the public.

And it's no problem, I love trying to help out. Thank you for all you've done, I'm sure you've helped me out way more than I've helped  :-D
NumyMufn July 29, 2009 at 9:25 PM
OH! Television Story! YES!! I've been listening to that track trying to place it  it's called 'Litermeter' on mine though, (track 4) damn unofficial releases
NumyMufn July 29, 2009 at 9:39 PM
Could you do me a favor, please  :-D Could you check yours and tell me if any of this matches up to yours?

Litermeter
track 4
2:22 - bump section roughly 0:06 - 0:21

Nidocin
track 9
2:34

I'm not sure what to put in the bump notes  :|
blackliquid009 July 30, 2009 at 1:01 AM
Whoops, I wasn't thinking. Yep it's definitely Litermeter, I just checked to make sure. I tend to mix those two tracks up for some reason  :-D.
mongo July 30, 2009 at 1:36 AM
Nothing useful from my part  but I remember the Still Being Designed song was also used on another bump, recently I think.
NumyMufn July 30, 2009 at 1:41 AM
Okay TV story is fixed, and don't sweat it - happens to me all the time  :-D

@ mongo -  I think you're right, I'll look through my notes. I probably would have question-marked Clark for that one.
crud, nuthin' in the notes. I remember running through his stuff recently though. Those FLAC files drive me nuts in WMP - if you try to skip through the track it just starts over - maddening I tell ya' :P

So I just found a bump that uses the same song. It's funny, this one's music is under Unknown - Breakbeat, while Still Being Designed was under Unknown - Drum and Bass. Anyway here's the link to "Picture from 2004": http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/1424
mongo July 31, 2009 at 10:54 PM
That one was it  Thanks!
blackliquid009 July 31, 2009 at 11:34 PM
Yep no problem.

Hey does anyone think we should add Copigturduckenburgrer (http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/1194) to the list?
blackliquid009 August 11, 2009 at 1:51 AM
Nicolas Van Damme is without a doubt Flying Lotus. I've actually heard that song before when listening to Flying Lotus, I just forgot the name.

And I just checked out "Spin Cycles", Flying Lotus put it up on his Myspace. Turns out it's actually not any of the songs we've been looking for.
NumyMufn August 12, 2009 at 7:42 PM
Well that just figures :P

Thanks for staying on top of it  :-D I've been out of it for a bit here - trying to get caught up
lildudenc August 13, 2009 at 3:19 AM
Omg I was up tonight not paying to my television heard the beat I've been wanting for weeks playing. That same beat from the Australian wallabies/Crop circles was playing on the reschedule bump lol. Ugh I still want that beat..
blackliquid009 August 15, 2009 at 3:31 AM
So I was listening to this Flying Lotus BBC Essential Mix I downloaded and I remembered that I heard a remixed version of the song for Nicholas Van Damme in it. Sure enough, at the very end I heard it. Unfortunately, I can't find the actual song, even though I distinctly remember hearing it somewhere. Here's the link to download the mix: http://www.newmixes.com/flying_lotus-essential_mix-sat-11-29-2008.html

The "track" listing says that it would be called "Live Set Practice Run", but I've had no luck. It also has a remixed version of the song for Golf Leaderboard.
blackliquid009 August 16, 2009 at 4:40 AM
Found it!
Nicolas Van Damme:
Artist: King Midas Sound
Album: Cool Out EP
Song: Lost (Flying Lotus remix)

Here's the link to the EP info: http://rensoul.com/2009/02/king-midas-sound-cool-out-ep-f.php

And you might want to tag instrumental on the end of the name.
NumyMufn August 16, 2009 at 6:28 AM
Hey, great work, BL  :-D One question, did you actually run across an instrumental version? I'd hate to add that and not be able to locate one  :| either way, thanks for the legwork. Mine are awful tired  (working on gay penguins right now)
blackliquid009 August 16, 2009 at 6:46 PM
Well I did run into an instrumental, but it's on imeem.
NumyMufn August 16, 2009 at 8:53 PM
Hey, never pass up a clue!
blackliquid009 August 17, 2009 at 2:29 AM
Good point. Here's the link if you want it : http://www.imeem.com/queeenk/music/fvjVAIcf/flying-lotus-lost-remix-instrumental/
NumyMufn August 17, 2009 at 3:31 AM
Awesome, thanks  :-D While we're on the subject of circumstantial evidence, mongo PM'ed a link to me that supports the "Kill your Coworkers" track. It's a post by someone linking to FlyLo's myspace in Nov. 2008 and recommending that track by name. So, apparently it was up there at the time.
http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?p=5431175
blackliquid009 August 17, 2009 at 7:24 AM
Wow cool I was starting to think that one was never going to be found. So is that enough information for the bumps' info to be changed?
NumyMufn August 17, 2009 at 3:34 PM
I'll add something to the description, but since it's no longer there to listen to we can't be sure it was in fact the same track. It just confirms that he did indeed have a track called "Kill Your Coworkers" and to keep an eye out. Kinda like the "Spin Cycles" track wasn't what we thought it was going to be after finding that YouTube vid.... hmmm .... what day is it? I think LA 3x3 ships today! WHOO! ...  >.>
<.<

*ahem* sorry,    I just hope we can answer some questions when it arrives.
I have misgivings about adding info when there doesn't appear to be any legal means of acquisition, but these kinds of hunts require all the help we can get and I feel the need to make all the clues available regardless of how silly they may seem. It's the whole basis of the brainstorming process.
blackliquid009 August 17, 2009 at 4:31 PM
Ok you're right. Sorry I tend to get ahead of myself  :-D .

So I guess at this point our best option is to wait it out and hope something new gets released with more information. I'll keep looking around and checking in with the Flying Lotus Myspace.
blackliquid009 August 23, 2009 at 8:20 PM
Lead on Copigturduckenburger? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEJTfcomlsc&feature=channel_page

I also heard "Spin Cycles" in a Flying Lotus BBC Essential Mix. It's labeled as "Sangria Spin Cycles (ambient mix)". Here's a link to download the mix:  http://www.newmixes.com/flying_lotus-essential_mix-sat-11-29-2008.html

You can also download it at the same site that you can get his other mix from (the one he has a link to on his myspace).
NumyMufn August 24, 2009 at 11:19 PM
Sorry, BL, I've been a bit sidetracked  I was searching my hard drive this afternoon for the document that I started with the times that correspond to the track listing of that BBC mix. I can't find it anywhere  :-P I got my hands on 38 cartoons, and track 24 is indeed much like the Copigturduckenburger, enough that I'll go ahead and add him as the artist with yet more footnotes... I'm gonna need some fancy footwork for all this :P I was disappointed that 3x3 wasn't much help.
blackliquid009 August 24, 2009 at 11:59 PM
Don't worry about it :-D. Just wondering, how did you get 38 Cartoons? I've been searching for a while.

Flying Lotus also posted a blog about a bunch of upcoming new stuff. Here's the link: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=15726394&blogId=506553420
NumyMufn August 25, 2009 at 4:13 AM
omg, i'm having my own geek moment  :-D has anybody watched the video on Flying Lotus's MySpace page, it's the first one in the "About" section. About 3:40 in he talks about adult swim, and then at 4:34 they play The Luther bump. I'm watching and I'm thinking... that looks kinda fuzzy  :| Then I start seeing the pixels fluctuating kinda weird, and I realized that they had to have gotten it from us!   :-o  what I did to get that one is what caused the pixelating. Even if they did the exact same thing to get it I can't imagine the pixelation being identical  :-D

squeee!

and I just realized it has the wrong date on it

we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread

In case anyone missed it, Flying Lotus posted a new mix at Brainfeeder yesterday

I'm officially adding
Why are you Mean?

to the list - if you listen to Decade Mix from the above post, at about 14:40 - 17:25 there is what sounds like this song somewhat... okay, seriously twisted. Honestly I kept waiting to hear the bump piece but it didn't happen.  :-P Go ahead, call me crazy, I'm used to it.

I also got an email this morning about a new release by Flying Lotus - "Cosmogramma" is due out the first week in May.
If you're interested in the Limited Quantity First Edition CD you can try the pre-order from BLEEP: http://bleep.com/index.php?page=release_details&releaseid=23694
I recognize a few titles from his MySpace player but I can only hope some of the other stuff will help us out

Hey guys,

I found the song that is in Spell My Finger 2 and that other Science bump. It's called Computer Face//Pure Being and it is by Flying Lotus. Apparently the album isn't released yet which explains why nobody has really found it until recently.

http://prettymuchamazing.com/music/listen/flying-lotus-computer-facepure-being

Great song!
NumyMufn February 28, 2010 at 4:09 AM
Awesome find!  Thanks for the heads up, I was hoping we'd find some stuff on the new album.

Even thought the bump is not an one, Cartoon Network uses FL's Rickshaw in a daytime "bump"
It's the bump where there is a black Nood on a table and some people are throwing this shiny stuff on it or something...

I thought that I should have let ya'll know  :|

Ohh okay, I wonder if that will ever surface. I know the song is on his Myspace, but I'm curious to know if he'll ever do anything else with it.
blackliquid009 September 9, 2010 at 6:25 AM
Does anyone ever visit the Dublab? I noticed they have a decent amount of unreleased Flying Lotus tracks in some of the mixes.
Willmus September 12, 2010 at 5:30 AM
I have some information on a post. I was not able to find the exact part, but I definately found the sample. I had to buy the original song to hear it. This is the close ancestor with the sample in it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn0ciwjiyxA

http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/2053

This is for the Bump "Why are you Mean"
This is under the Flying Lotus Suspect List, however, its really by an artist by the name of Easy. The song is called D'ya Dig. The album is Dr. Alex Paterson's Voyage into Paradise.

Hopefully this is the one.

This is one I never thought to be Flying Lotus, though thinking about it now it's always a possibility. About the other one (Why Are You Mean), I can hear what may be the bump song sample in the song you posted, but I'm not quite sure the two are connected. It could be a start, though.

I really hate having to do this but I think you are mistaken. I bought the original also, at most it's the sample source... if it was deftly modified, but it's not the recording used for the bump

Once again, I don't wish to discourage anyone from volunteering information :) it's always open for debate and sometimes you can find things where you weren't looking. We need all the help we can get

I actually did suspect this one. I was half hoping it might turn up on next week's release Pattern Grid World EP, I just didn't want to start searching for it until I checked. You'd be surprised how much time I can lose searching for music  . Its' nothing more than a  hunch, though. I just wondered because I recognize the first half without the beats from way back.... It just struck me as something he might do.

I'm definitely hopeful about Pattern+Grid World, though I'm trying to not get my hopes up too much. At least we'll get some verification on Kill Your Co-Workers. I think this is the other bump with that song in it: http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/2348 (sorry if this is the wrong one, I'm currently at a computer with no sound). That would be a cool one to find, and it doesn't sound like a library track.

If I remember correctly, this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv24VoF8PnE. It's definitely not new from 2010 as the video title says, by the way; I heard it last year. The only problem was that I couldn't find a better source. It looks as if the instrumental was never officially released. I'm at once again at a computer with no sound right now, so once I get back to my own computer I'll look more.

Okay, just to make things more interesting... and messy :P ... I've found it listed as "Code of Ethnics" which is a perfectly plausible play on words. Can't say which is correct, but it brought up more *ahem* info - including a version used for a Busta Rhymes remix on the Black Fist Promo CD (partial tracklist) that starts between 16 and 17 minutes in... and a blog post stating it was playing on his MySpace page in May of 2008. Also listed as such on this BBC playlist from May 2008...

Still nothing really official in terms of a release  but something to keep in mind

Haha thanks. And it's no problem :-D. I do have the Black Fist and I know that part of the mix, it's just frustrating how the track list isn't official. I've also seen the song listed as both Code of Ethics and Code of Ethnics (and even one video that's labeled as just "Ethnics"), so that's also frustrating. I haven't seen that blog or that BBC playlist before though, so that's interesting. If only he would just release the songs he's had on his MySpace in the past. I'll keep an eye out for a more official source, but for now would it be a good idea if we at least put a note in the description?

I haven't seen that blog or that BBC playlist before though, so that's interesting. If only he would just release the songs he's had on his MySpace in the past. I'll keep an eye out for a more official source, but for now would it be a good idea if we at least put a note in the description?
Yeah, I've been meaning to... still kinda on the fence how to do it. I'm leaning toward listing the artist as Flying Lotus and redirecting everything else to the description area. It's just too messy, and most people seem to be interested in instrumentals. This isn't official either but it's also at SoundCloud for listening.

Yeah that could work. Hey I just saw the description, it looks pretty good actually, it's not too messy.

By the way, on the bumps with Sangria Spin Cycles (http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/1632 and http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/1616) I noticed those notes from when the info wasn't confirmed are still there.
blackliquid009 September 18, 2010 at 5:32 PM
Hey I just noticed you edited the info for Kill Your Co-Workers. Did Pattern+Grid World come in?
NumyMufn September 18, 2010 at 5:35 PM
:-D Hah.. thanks I'll clean that up.

AND yes, I received my Pattern+Grid World today and fixed all the "Kill Your Co-Workers" bumps  :-D

...was still working on this post
blackliquid009 September 18, 2010 at 5:44 PM
Awesome! I didn't even expect it until Tuesday. Hopefully mine comes in today too then...

Anyway, are we adding Turbo Turbo Turbo Game to the front page?
NumyMufn September 18, 2010 at 6:27 PM
I heart my Post Office

Yes, I will add the Turbo bump... should we tack on the Williams St Divisions? I dunno.... down in the corner in tiny little print...

...actually I'm gonna tackle that a little later - I'd like to clean the whole thing up without losing what's been done and I just don't have time right this minute  :|
blackliquid009 September 18, 2010 at 6:42 PM
I'm still not 100% sure about William St. Divisions myself, but then again I wasn't sure about Computer Face / Pure Being at first either, so it wouldn't really hurt to add it. Yeah, it's a good idea if you wanna clean it up.

Anyone think "What's in Your Frig" should be added: http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/2679? It's definitely not one I'm sure about, but it's a possibility.

I guess I forgot to address this here  Yes, cuz the timing - Spring 2007 - makes it a good bet.

Also, adding Stoppage Time - MrHang clued me in on this one. I don't even know how he heard it under the yelling
blackliquid009 November 29, 2010 at 8:44 PM
Oh wow, I just compared the two and I definitely see it, I never would have seen that connection before.

Anyway, the front page is looking good  :-). I'm keeping my ears open for the other two songs ("Williams Street Divisions" and "What's in Your Frig?"), but so far I've had no luck.
NumyMufn November 30, 2010 at 2:28 AM
I know, right?  Apparently he's been listening to the E-Tek9 track that uses "Tips and Tricks" and heard it right away when they replayed it last night.

Thanks, your efforts are always appreciated

Yeah, it's no problem, I love trying to help out  :-).

So are we sure that Hammer-Small Lovechild is Flying Lotus? It sounds more like Hudson Mohawke (who's also on Warp)...but I've heard everything from his Polyfolk Dance EP and Butter and it's not from there.

BTW here's a sample Hudson Mohawke song in case you haven't heard him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I8_tyOPyf8

Not at all, it's in the purely hunches group. I just did a quick run through of all that I have by him, including the albums you mentioned. (I have some non-Warp releases) As a consistent sound I have to agree you have a very good case - definitely worth looking into. Although from what I saw on the quickie look I just did I think we'd have to be looking for something from a sampler or compilation... or one of those dreaded promo-only CDs. I don't know, but I'm beat right now and need sleep  see if my subconscious can help

I emailed about the "Where You Are" & "Why Are You Mean?" bumps. Here's to them replying!  8-)

The track "Elephant Ride '07" is currently posted at Soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/flyinglotus/flying-lotus-elephant-ride-07 (link active at time of this posting - may not last) from the old "Plants" bump http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/468

The King Midas "Lost" remix instrumental is also there at the moment: http://soundcloud.com/flyinglotus/flying-lotus-kingmidas-lost

Also confirmed title of "Code of ethNics" http://soundcloud.com/flyinglotus/code-of-ethnics-2

Match Play for Golf Win : Vandalyzm - Yes Sir (Prod. Flying Lotus) http://vandalyzm.bandcamp.com/track/yes-sir-prod-flying-lotus
Couldn't find an instrumental version.

Flag Invaders : LeftO, Vol. 1 (Compilation) — Flying Lotus - AB-Original. Track 10.

Was featured on the 'For The 562' mix by BTS Radio in 2008, I believe.

Pretty old tracks.

I've had mixed feelings about adding this one, but I suppose it's the right thing to do... will move to 'looking for instrumental' section of the OP

The BTS Radio mix link is already in the description. I appreciate the official release link, but I see it's only the Belgium iTunes store. I couldn't get my account to access it from the US. I admit I don't use iTunes all that much so if there's a way around that I'd like to hear. I went ahead and added the Belgium link to the description since our link generator for the database also won't access it... I could do it manually but it might cause confusion when a US account tries to click on it.
